The precursor to the CISIES was the Clinical Information System Questionnaire (CISQ). The CISQ was administered to evaluate the implementation of clinical information systems for the following care areas in the following locations:

• Anesthesia CIS - various locations in France
• Critical Care CIS - Buffalo NY, USA
• Veterans Medical Centers - Buffalo, NY and Baltimore, MD, USA
• Long-Term Care CIS - Buffalo, NY and Long Island, NY, USA
• Emergency Department CIS- Calgary, Alberta, Canada

The CISIES has been administered since 2005 to evaluate the implementation clinical information systems for the following care areas in the following locations:

• Critical Care CIS - Florida, USA
• Acute Care (Medical-Surgical and ICU) Electronic Health Record - Florida, USA
